WE LIVE FOR EACH OTHER.
Our open motto expresses the true spirit of fraternity by representing true friendships and unselfish service to mankind.
ALPHA DELTA PI HISTORYFounded on May 15, 1851, Alpha Delta Pi is the oldest secret society for college women in the world. Eugenia Tucker Fitzgerald and her 5 closest friends established "The Adelphean Society" at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia. Our sorority is committed to high academic standards, social responsibility, sisterhood, values, and ethics.
To date, Alpha Delta Pi has initiated more than 235,000 women, many of whom are actively involved in one of over 145 collegiate chapters and 150 alumnae associations internationally throughout the United States and Canada. |
DELTA CHAPTER HISTORYFounded in 1906 at the University of Texas at Austin, Delta chapter of Alpha Delta Pi was the first active chapter of ADPi in the state of Texas and the fourth in the country, making us the current oldest active chapter of Alpha Delta Pi. We are one of the six oldest sororities at UT.

Our BadgeThe diamond-shaped badge was first worn by the Adelpheans in 1851. Stars were not included on this first badge, but it did have a monogram of the Wesleyan pin attached to the badge by a link chain, thus forming a guard. In 1906, Nanaline King presented a new design for the pin. Her design was a smaller gold badge with a black enamel center which pictured the clasped hands, the two stars, and the Greek letters, Alpha Delta Phi. This design was adopted and is still in use today, with the exception of the Greek letter Phi being changed to Pi at the 1913 convention. We are so proud to wear the Delta guard to represent our chapter!

Four-Pointed DiamondThe four-pointed diamond symbolizes our four key values: strengthening character and personality, watching attitudes toward fellow beings, recognizing the value of high educational standards, and developing faith and loyalty.
Coat Of ArmsElizabeth Moseley Coles, who was elected national president at the first Grand Convention, was responsible for having the coat of arms designed. Another sister of Alpha chapter, Agnes Chapman, is given credit for the actual design. Symbolism from our ritual and our Alpha pin were combined in the coat of arms, and design originally had a background of violets. In 1919, the convention body voted to make changes and the present design was accepted.
Woodland VioletThe Woodland Violet, which grows wild, is the official flower of ADPi. Because it is unavailable for purchase, African Violets are often used to symbolize the Woodland Violet.
